Lightning is the electrical equivilent of dumping a million gallons of
water into a teacup all at once. It overflows massively, anywhere it can
to find ground. Wire heat up, against dry wood they start fires. The
power surge is so great, it shatters the insulators closest to the strike
from inequal thermal expansion coefficients. Poles catch fire. It is a
basket of variables, but stuff is going to get really hot, really fast, and
bad ju-ju is going to follow.
